Not submitting a dissertation? No problem! Come join in the festivities and celebrate the end of the semester with us. These events are free and open to everyone.

Coffee, Tea, Coloring Pages and Colored Pencils Available 

8:00a.m. -5:00p.m.  in the graduate student lounge (Gearhart hall 206).

Did you know? Shepherds discovered coffee in Ethiopia circa 800 A.D.Legend has it that 9th century goat herders noticed the effect caffeine had on their goats, who appeared to “dance” after eating coffee berries. A local monk then made a drink with coffee berries and found that it kept him awake at night, thus the original cup of coffee was born. See more from good housekeeping.

 

Yoga and Mindfulness

11:00a.m.-12:00 p.m. in the graduate student lounge (Gearhart hall 206)

Led by Ed Mink, director of wellness and health promotion at UofA’s Pat Walker Health Center.

This activity takes a more holistic approach aimed at improving different facets of a student’s lifestyle. Discover the potential power of being present in the moment while going through gentle stretching, focused breathing and meditative relaxing postures that unite the mind and body.

Dog Therapy with the K-9 officers from the University of Arkansas Police Department

9:00a.m.-11:00 a.m. in the graduate student lounge (Gearhart hall 206)

Students and staff are welcome to visit with the UAPD dogs. Petting a canine companion can help lower blood pressure and help ease depression. People with heart disease who own dogs tend to live longer than those with the same ailments who don’t own a dog. And pets help decrease stress by lowering levels of the stress hormone cortisol, and increasing levels of the neurochemical oxytocin, the love hormone.

5 Minute Chair Massages

  9 a.m.-11 a.m. in the Graduate Student Lounge (Gearhart Hall 206)

UREC Massage will be here to offer 5 minute chair massages. A seated chair massage might be more than a luxury that leaves you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. It can have positive health implications. Any type of massage, including chair massage, can reduce stress, improve sleep, help sore and tight muscles and enhance immunity. Photo Booth, Writing on the (dissertation/thesis) Wall and Thank You Videos

9:00a.m.-5:00 p.m. in the graduate student lounge (Gearhart hall 206)

In partnership with the Graduate Student Congress and the UofA Annual Fund.

Celebrate with a picture in our photo booth, write your advice on the wall, and record a thank you video to say thanks to the many family, friends, and university faculty who supported you on your journey.
