Summer Graduate Assistantship Opportunity: Apply by January 26

The Office of Student-Athlete Success is now accepting applications for Graduate Assistants in our Academic Counseling and Education Enrichment Services (Learning Specialist) units. The posting will close January 26th, and tentative start date for GAs is June 25, 2018.

Native American Serving Non-Tribal Institution (NASNTI) Post-doctoral Fellowship: University of Minnesota, Morris

The NASNTI Post-doctoral Fellowship is part of the Native American Student Success (NASS) program at UMM. Through the fellowship, we seek to support scholars of the Liberal Arts who are committed to advancing the perspectives of American Indian/Alaskan Natives through their creative activity, teaching, research, service or mentoring of students. The postdoctoral scholar will begin in fall 2018 and will be housed in one or more of the following academic disciplines within the following divisions:

  • Humanities (Art History, Studio Art, Music, Theatre Arts, English, Communication, Media and Rhetoric, Philosophy, World Languages)
  • Science and Math (Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, Geology, Environmental Science)
  • Social Science (American Indian Studies, Anthropology, Psychology, Economics and Management, History, Human Services, Political Science, Sociology, Environmental Studies, Latin American Area Studies, African and Black American Studies)
  • Education (Education, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Sport Studies and Athletics)

The NASNTI Post-doctoral Fellowship is for one year with the possibility of a one-year renewal. Post-doctoral fellows typically teach two courses per year, work closely with faculty mentors inside and outside of their disciplines, and mentor student scholars.

Qualifications:
Candidates must have completed their PhD or other terminal degree no more than three years before the starting date (August 2018). Candidates who have not yet had a tenure-track faculty position will have priority. Awards include a competitive salary, benefits package, and travel funds for conference participation.

Closing date: The position(s) will remain open until filled.

Summer Orientation Assistants: Apply by February 2

The College of Education and Health Professions is seeking applicants for orientation assistants during the 2018 summer orientation cycle. The orientation assistants will work out of the Office of Academic Affairs (3rd floor, Graduate Education Building) assisting in the registration process under the supervision of the professional academic advisors.

Applicants must have attended one full year at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and have at least a 2.50 overall cumulative grade point average. Graduate student applicants must have completed at least six graduate credit hours at the university.

SREB Dissertation Award for Underrepresented PhDs: Apply by March 31

The Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) has funding available for the one-year Dissertation Award that it offers to students who are enrolled in PhD programs and are planning to become a full-time college or university faculty member after earning the PhD.  The award would back-date to start in January 2018.

It offers a one-year, $20,000 stipend, payment of tuition and fees, a $500 research allowance and professional development support, and covers expenses associated with attending the annual Compact for Faculty Diversity Institute on Teaching and Mentoring:  https://www.sreb.org/types-awards

Subjects Wanted for Research Study to Evaluate Personal Health

A study is seeking adults between 18-55 years old with no chronic illness or injury. This study will involve four visits to the Exercise Science Research Center; 1-3 periods of 24-hour nutrition monitoring. Subjects who qualify for this study will receive $20 to $320 for participating. For details or to sign up, contact Annelise Zaring at anzaring@email.uark.edu.

Volunteers Needed for Parent and Child Nutrition Study: $100 Compensation

The Hydration Science Laboratory is conducting a parent and child nutrition study with parents ages 20-50 and children ages 3-13 with compensation of $100. This study is conducted under the direction of Stavros Kavouras. The protocol has been approved by the University of Arkansas Institutional Review Board for Human Subjects in Research.

ImaginePhD is a free online career exploration and planning tool for PhD students and postdoctoral scholars in the humanities and social sciences. ImaginePhD allows users to assess their career-related skills, interests, and values and to explore careers appropriate to their disciplines. The tool includes a goal setting application that enables users to map out next steps for career and professional development to achieve their goals.
