Funding Updates

U.S. Army Research Lab Summer Fellowship Opportunity

The U.S. Army Research Laboratory’s (ARL) Research Associateship Program (RAP) has Summer Journeyman Fellowships available for undergraduate-PhD students. Over the 2018 summer, students can participate in research at one of the Army Research Lab facilities in Aberdeen, MD, Adelphi, MD, or White Sands, NM in one of five research areas:

  • Computational & Information Sciences (U.S. Citizens, may consider int’l students)
  • Human Research & Engineering (U.S. Citizens, may consider int’l students)
  • Sensors & Electron Devices (U.S. Citizens, may consider int’l students)
  • Vehicle Technology (U.S. Citizens ONLY)
  • Weapons & Materials (U.S. Citizens ONLY)

Applications close Sunday, November 12, 2017.

Benjamin Lever Fellowship Deadline Approaching

The Benjamin Franklin Lever Tuition Fellowship, named in honor of the first African American to receive a graduate degree from the University, is designed to increase diversity within graduate degree programs by providing financial assistance to graduate students from underrepresented groups. This fellowship is not available to otherwise qualified graduate students who receive tuition payment from another source, such as a graduate assistant position or other tuition award.

Applications are due November 15, 2017.

New Career Exploration and Planning Tool for the Humanities and Social Sciences

ImaginePhD is a free online career exploration and planning tool for PhD students and postdoctoral scholars in the humanities and social sciences. ImaginePhD allows users to assess their career-related skills, interests, and values and to explore careers appropriate to their disciplines. The tool includes a goal setting application that enables users to map out next steps for career and professional development to achieve their goals.

Fall is the time for academics on the faculty job market to start applying for jobs. The Chronicle of Higher Education has some good advice for those out on the job market at http://www.chronicle.com/article/The-Job-Market-Picking-Apart/241414.

Registration Now Open for Three Minute Thesis

Registration is now open for the University of Arkansas Three Minute Thesis competition. All graduate students are encouraged to participate. The academic contest challenges students to summarize their thesis or dissertation research within three minutes to a general audience. The winner of the university-wide final will earn $750 and entry to a regional Three Minute Thesis contest held in Fayetteville on Feb. 24.

Students wishing to participate should complete the registration form. The registration deadline is Dec. 1.
