Christmas in Brazil is pretty much the same compared to the Christmas in the United States. Like in the U.S., Christmas in Brazil is a big deal and celebrates Jesus Christ’s birth. In Brazil, family is greatly valued, therefore family gathers during the holidays.
In Brazil, Santa Claus is called PAPAI NOEL. Everyone gets excited during Christmas time, especially children expecting the arrival of Santa Claus, and of course, all of the presents are requested through letters sent to the North Pole, where Jolly Saint Nick lives. However only the very nice children receive presents. We also put our Christmas trees up and decorate our houses with lights and ornaments, pretty much like it is done in America.
However, a big difference between the Brazilian and the American Christmas is the weather. There will never be snow in a Brazilian Christmas, December is summer time in Brazil. Santa must have a hard time when he is delivering all the presents in Brazil because his heavy red coat makes the task a challenge.
